The Project
Polish Farmer will purchase a cultivating tractor to transition its dry bean farm from hand weeding to mechanical weed management. The newer, compact tractor will both lower emissions and increase operator safety.
Environmental Impact
Polish Farmer promotes organic practices by using mechanical weed control instead of herbicides. Dry beans, as legumes, fix atmospheric nitrogen, support soil-building bacteria, and increase organic matter. They also provide a climate-friendly protein source, generating far fewer greenhouse gas emissions than animal-based foods. Investing in a tractor for efficient weed management extends labor viability, increases yields, and expands the availability of locally grown, sustainable dry beans.
“Having an efficient weed management strategy will increase my confidence to expand my growing space by another quarter of an acre, furthering the supply of nutrient-dense dry beans to my community.”
