Two Harbors, MN
The Project
Agate Acres Farm and Events will construct a permanent 40’ x 16’ wash and pack shed to support washing, packing, cooling, and short-term storage of vegetables and cut flowers.
Environmental Impact
Agate Acres uses chemical-free and regenerative growing practices. This project protects the investment of soil health, labor, organic fertility inputs, and water by ensuring crops are not lost due to inadequate post-harvest infrastructure. Reliable post-harvest infrastructure is critical to preventing crop loss during heat spikes and heavy rainfall events. Proper wash, cooling, and storage capacity will significantly reduce food waste and support rebuilding local wholesale relationships while strengthening farm stand offerings.
“By reducing food loss, improving harvest efficiency, and enabling consistent wholesale and farm stand sales, a dedicated wash/pack shed will strengthen long-term financial stability while allowing more food to be grown and sold using the same land base.”
