Lake Nebagamon, WI
The Project
Shalomba Farm will install an on-site well for year-round water access, ensuring crop vitality during dry periods and enabling diverse, high-quality produce cultivation. The well will increase production capacity, reduce external water dependence, and enhance farm resilience to climate variability. It will allow the farm to grow new crops, extend its growing season, and increase its market presence, benefiting local families with fresh, healthy food.
Environmental Impact
This project supports Shalomba Farm’s organic farming commitment by providing a reliable water source to grow food sustainably, feed customers, and support distressed communities. It will expand regenerative practices, such as no-till, crop rotation, and cover crops, enhancing soil structure and carbon sequestration.
“By establishing a stable water source, we’re investing in our farm’s future resilience. The well ensures decades of farming, economic stability and growth potential, improved capacity to face climate challenges, reduces water-related operating costs, and creates sustainable operations for future generations. The well will increase local, sustainably grown food availability, enhance organic practices, and enable continued regenerative methods, supporting food security in the Lake Superior Bioregion while reducing environmental impact.”
