The Project
Native Wise will install fencing on its ranch in its back fields, which will allow it to add four new paddocks to its bison operation. This will increase the available forage for the bison, reduce the amount of hay brought in to feed the animals, and increase the capacity and number of bison in the herd. This would, in turn, increase the USDA-certified, processed bison meat available for sale to local restaurants and retail locations.
Environmental Impact
Native Wise will implement a rotational grazing schedule for its bison herd once it has completed the installation of the four additional paddocks. This system would closely mimic bison’s natural grazing methods.
“By providing our bison herd with a natural forage source and rotating them across the landscape to allow for forage regeneration and incorporation of manure naturally, we will be creating an environment and lifestyle similar to what bison evolved with over centuries. By creating this grazing system, we hope to maintain a healthy bison herd with no need for medications, antibiotics, or human interventions. Our goal is to maintain a healthy, happy bison herd that closely mimics the lifestyle of wild bison.”
