The Project
Drifty Acres will build a mobile turkey roost to expand the number of rotationally grazed turkeys on its farm. This project would directly raise its capacity to grow more food for the Lake Superior Bioregion.
Environmental Impact
Drifty Acres practices multispecies rotational grazing, a sustainable agricultural system. The farm’s sheep are first in the rotation, followed by the turkeys. The turkeys help break up the parasite cycle by picking through the manure. The sheep graze the grass to shorter heights, improving its accessibility to the turkeys. Increasing turkey production will improve the fertility of the soil.
“Our farm really prides itself in its organic, regenerative, and sustainable practices. We believe strongly in the role that multispecies rotational grazing systems play in sustainable agricultural systems.”
