We’ll explore the history of composting at Resource Renew and why keeping organic material out of the landfill matters for our local environment. \nYou’ll also see each step of the composting process up close\, including crafting the compost recipe\, mixing ingredients\, monitoring temperatures and microbial activity during active composting\, and moving materials through curing\, screening\, and maturation. By the end of the tour\, you’ll have a deeper understanding of how premium compost is made and why it’s ready for customers each spring. \nThis event is free\, but please register so we know to expect you. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free children’s book reading with Duluth-based author and illustrator Carolyn Olson\, celebrating her new picture book\, Pearl’s Garden. After the book reading we’ll do a small gardening project that young attendees can take home\, and one lucky person will win a copy of the book! \n\nPearl’s Garden tells the story of a young girl who tends an urban garden in the tradition of her mother and grandmother. Through patience\, generosity\, and care\, Pearl inspires her family to work together and share in the harvest—highlighting how gardening builds community across generations. \nCarolyn Olson is a narrative artist who lives and works in Duluth\, MN. She works in gouache\, oil\, and pastel to illustrate everyday life and community stories. Olson’s work is familiar around Duluth\, with one of her large works on display in the Co’op’s Denfeld classroom. \nCopies of Pearl’s Garden will be available for purchase\, and the author will be present to sign books.
