Store Manager

Full-time salaried exempt position
Supervised by General Manager

Job Summary

  • Ensure safe, secure, and financially sustainable day-to-day operations of designated store in compliance with established practices, policies and budget restrictions and to achieve progress on WFC’s ENDS.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, coach and supervise designated employees in compliance with established practices, policies and budget restrictions to support day-to-day operations and to achieve progress on WFC’s ENDS.
  • Document and coordinate communications between OPS Team and ADMIN Team.
  • Research, analyze, present, implement and manage projects, within budget, to achieve positive progress on ENDS and strategic objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Storewide
    1. Abide by all WFC policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Policy & Procedure Manual.

  • Customer Service

      3. Promptly respond to requests for service and assistance.
      4. Schedule and post electronically position hours to ensure availability of department support.

  • Job-Specific
    1. Ensure safe, secure, and financially sustainable day-to-day operations of store in compliance with established practices, policies and budget restrictions to achieve progress on WFC’s ENDS.
    2. Hire, train, evaluate, coach and supervise department employees in compliance with established practices, policies and budget restrictions to support day-to-day operations and to achieve progress on WFC’s ENDS.
    3. Co-Lead the OPS Team with other WFC Store Manager including, but not limited to, facilitating, coordinating, documenting and communicating progress on goals and projects of the OPS Team.
    4. Research, analyze, present and, as approved, implement and manage projects, within budget, to achieve positive progress on ENDS and strategic objectives.
    5. Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of store equipment, vehicles, storage areas and office areas in compliance with established practices, document and resolve any equipment maintenance or safety concerns, and incorporate equipment, sanitation and safety needs into budget requests or allocations.
    6. Work in cooperation with other WFC Store Manager to ensure internal and external operational consistency between WFC retail locations.
    7. Perform other tasks assigned by the General Manager including, but not limited to, participation as manager of special projects and/or participation as Board administrator and/or as Interim General Manager as directed.
    8. Participate in storewide management including, but not limited to, completing requested work product and participating in ADMIN, OPS, MANAGEMENT TEAM, department and storewide meetings.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Post-secondary business management degree or minimum five years experience in business management
  • Minimum five years experience supervising multiple employees including, but not limited to, interviewing, training, coaching and evaluating
  • Analytical ability and proficiency in math
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Attention to detail and good organizational skills
  • Ability to professionally document, communicate and archive notes/summaries of meetings, evaluations, events, trainings, etc.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands, work under time pressures and meet deadlines
  • Personal integrity to handle confidential information
  • Willingness to be open, to learn and to take on new responsibilities
  • Demonstrate objectivity, neutrality and calmness under pressure
  • Computer proficiency including, but not limited to, keyboard experience, email, Word, Excel, data base management
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Regular, predictable attendance
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Available to work evenings, weekends, holidays

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in retail, grocery, food service, natural foods and/or cooperative management
  • Experience in facility management and/or maintenance including, but not limited to, bringing in projects on time and within budget and successfully resolving project challenges with contractors, regulators and/or vendors.

Work Environment

  1. Occasional Exposure
    1. Outdoor weather conditions (e.g., tasks in loading dock and receiving areas, landscaping, events, construction projects)
    2. Wet and/or humid conditions (e.g., walk-in/reach-in coolers/freezers)
    3. Moving loaded carts/pallets of product in and out of storage/retail areas and in and out of freight elevator
  2. Constant Exposure
    1. Background music and in-store pages
    2. Food odors, grain and spice dust, food allergens (e.g., proximity to preparation of seafood)

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to frequently move up to 60 lbs. throughout shift
  2. Frequently stand, walk, squat, bend, sit, balance and rotate body
  3. Frequently ascend and descend stairs, ladders and step stools
  4. Ability to safely use sharp cutting instruments
  5. Ability to do repetitive office tasks (sitting at a desk, reaching, bending, filing, using a computer keyboard and looking at a computer screen) for up to eight hours per day
  6. Manual dexterity to handle writing instruments, keyboards, computer mouse, scissors, stapler, etc.
  7. Ability to operate machinery such as computer keyboard, copier, and department equipment including, but not limited to, forklifts, pallet jacks, cardboard baler, company vehicle/s
