What is Membership?

Membership is Ownership. When you become a Member-Owner of Whole Foods Co-op, you are one of many Owners who provide capital with your membership payment for the building, equipment and inventory.

Member-Owners must use the services in order to receive the benefits. This means that the more you shop, the more you benefit through Member-Owner Specials, a larger patronage rebate (in years they are distributed) and the increased financial strength of your business.

Ownership gives you a say in your business through the Board of Directors, committees and, of course, the vote you cast each time you make a purchase. Ownership supports the local economy by insuring that up to $.66 of each dollar you spend in Duluth stays in the Twin Ports area. Ownership is yours until you decide to terminate. There is no yearly fee. The amount you pay for your equity is all you pay until such time the Board of Directors feels it is necessary to increase the equity investment (this last happened in 1990). Ownership benefits you, your household and your community.
